Today's hope is for a new home.

where we are

i envy those
who live in two places:
new york, say, and london;
wales and spain;
l.a. and paris;
hawaii and switzerland.

there is always the anticipation
of the change, the chance that what is wrong
is the result of where you are. i have
always loved both the freshness of
arriving and the relief of leaving. with
two homes every move would be a homecoming.
i am not even considering the weather, hot
or cold, dry or wet: i am talking about hope.

all photos were taken by me over the last six years.

  1. I love the poem, and it's true. Never moreso for me than today. Did you write it?

  2. Oh no, I wish I could write that well. It's a really powerful poem, I first heard it on the Writer's Almanac about a year or so ago and it's stuck with me ever since. It's by Gerald Locklin.
